WALK ’n’ TALK Caregiver Support Group

Location:  San Francisco
Time:  First and third Wednesdays of the month, 4:30-6:00 p.m.
Content:  A combination workout/support group for caregivers. The group begins with a low-impact workout, such as a walk or easy exercise routine, and then takes some time for group members to talk and share about their caregiving experiences. An ideal way to get support, improve your health and reduce stress, too.

Online Caregiver Support Groups

Sponsor: Family Caregiver Alliance

Time: Available 24 hours a day
Content: Four free online support groups, offering participants supportive environments in which to ask questions and share experiences, resources and ideas.

The Caregiver Online Group is for families, partners and other caregivers of adults with disorders such as Alzheimer’s, stroke, brain injury and others.

The Huntington’s Disease (HD) and Movement Disorders Online Group is for anyone—diagnosed individuals, families, friends and professionals—living with the day-to-day challenges of HD, Parkinson’s or another movement disorder. The group is facilitated by a registered nurse with extensive personal and professional HD experience.

The LGBT Caring Community Online Support Group is for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender caregivers of adults with cognitive impairments and/or other chronic health problems.

The Link2Care Support Group is part of the secure website dedicated to clients of California’s Caregiver Resource Centers (CRCs). For information on participating in this moderated group, call your local CRC or  (800) 445-8106.

VIP Support Group for Traumatic Brain Injury Survivors

 fourth Wednesday of every month, 6:30-8:00 p.m.
Content: For individuals who have sustained a traumatic brain injury. Partners, spouses, other relatives and friends are also welcomed.

Spanish-speaking Caregiver Support Group

Location: Llame para mas información / Call for specific information
Time: Dos lunes cada mes / Two Mondays per month
Content: Grupo de apoyo para familias Latinas que cuidan a un familiar con la enfermedad de Alzheimer’s u otro incapacidad de memoria. / Support group for families in the Latino community who are caring for a loved one with Alzheimer’s or other memory disorder.

Long-Distance Family Caregivers Support Group

Sponsor: JFCS of the East Bay/Older Adult Services
Location: Oakland
Time: Second Monday of the month, 6:30-8:00 p.m.
Content: Monthly support group for adults assisting a parent who lives far away with the challenges arising from age-related disabilities, or problems such as dementia and depression, housing, placement, hiring in-home care and more.

Support Group for Lesbians Who Have Lost a Partner

Sponsor:  Jewish Family and Children’s Services
Location: San Francisco
Time: Call for specific time and dates of next available group.
Content: Grief support for lesbians of any age who are suffering from the loss of a partner. The group meets for a specified number of weeks, four times a year, and preregistration is required. The group is open to all, regardless of faith. There may be a waiting list.

Family Caregivers Telephone Support Group

Sponsor:  Senior Center Without Walls/Senior Resources
Location: Members participate from their homes
Time:  Second and fourth Mondays, 10:30 a.m.-12:00 noon;
First and third Tuesdays, 6:30-8:00 p.m.
Content:  Caregiver Support Group in a telephone conference call format. The group is facilitated and meets for three three-month sessions a year, with a month off between each session.

Grief Self-Healing Support Group

Sponsor:  Sutter VNA and Hospice San Mateo
Location: City of San Mateo
Time:  Every Tuesday evening; call for specific time.
Content:  Bereavement support group open to all adults who are  grieving a death.  The group is ongoing and meets year-round to explore, heal and integrate grief from single or multiple losses, recent or in the past. Pre-registration is required; thereafter, participants attend as desired.

Huntington’s Disease Support Groups
