(2004). Psychosocial interventions to reduce depressive symptoms of dementia caregivers: A randomized clinical trial comparing two approaches. Journal of Mental Health and Aging, 10(4), 337-350 Design Randomized clinical trial Participants The participants of this study were N=295 caregivers of Alzheimer's disease patients. Outcome / Dependent Variables Caregiver depression was measured on the CES-D scale. Procedure There were two levels of intervention: The Caregiver Skill Intervention included 5 group sessions designed to build caregiver skills to manage behavioral symptoms of dementia, 7 individual phone contacts, 2 group booster sessions and as-needed phone contacts. The Information and Support Oriented Intervention provided generalized info & support (comparison group), 7 individual phone contacts, 2 group booster sessions and as-needed phone contacts.
Outcomes Depression scores significantly improved in both intervention conditions but there was no difference in efficacy between interventions. Author Farran, C., Gilley, D., McCann, J., Bienias, J., Lindeman, D. & Evans, D. |
