Triple-R Intergenerational Latino Respite ProgramTriple-R Adult Day Program increases access to dementia care for Latino families by offering a bi-lingual, twice-a-week, respite program at a local elementary school. Organization: City of Sacramento - Triple-R Adult Day Program
Triple-R specializes in care for people with mild to severe memory loss (dementia). The Triple-R Program has been recognized by the State of California as the Alzheimer's Day Care Resource Center (ADCRC) for Sacramento County. How does it work? Triple-R Adult Day Program is a twice-a-week arts-based intergenerational program located on an elementary school campus. The lead staff member is a local artist with training in gerontology. Older adults interact with students on art and music projects. The program room is situated near the soccer fields and play areas so that participants can watch outdoor play while they go about their own activities. There is a separate area created specifically for family members to gather and chat. Why is it successful? Caregivers are surveyed annually. Responses from the last survey showed a full 79 percent of caregivers felt their own health improved after their loved one started coming to Triple-R. Additional anecdotal information shows positive impact of the program on the families' lives. For more information: www.tripler.org |
