Liberty City In Home Respite Program (Easter Seals South Florida, Inc.)

Easter Seals has been helping individuals with disabilities and special needs, and their families, live better lives for more than 80 years. Whether helping someone improve physical mobility, return to work or simply gain greater independence for everyday living, Easter Seals offers a variety of services to help people with disabilities address life's challenges and achieve personal goals.

Organization:

Easter Seals South Florida

Easter Seals South Florida, Incorporated (ESSF) mission is to provide exceptional services to ensure that all children and adults with disabilities or special needs and their families have equal opportunities to live, learn, work and play in their communities. ESSF coordinates its services to meet the diverse and multiple service needs of persons served in a cultural competent manner and employs bilingual direct care staff (English, Spanish, Creole, Hebrew, etc.) to reflect the community's diversity.

Location:

Miami, Florida

How does it work?

The program is implemented in collaboration among case managers and volunteer respite workers to provide caregivers support in a community that has been identified as the poorest in Miami Dade County, and has the highest crime rate. This program builds upon ESSF prior adult day services experiences. Liberty City In Home Respite Program offers caregivers and their families respite care services, training, and case management services at no cost to participants.

Why is it successful?

Liaisons and partnerships have been formed with local organizations in order to bring the respite services to the heart of the community. Local faith organizations have also been instrumental in the outreach process by providing a space for the agency to speak to congregants about the available respite services and volunteer recruitment.
