Family Caregiving to the Older Population: Recent and Proposed Legislation (2008)

This report to Congress briefly describes legislation enacted in the 109th Congress and proposals introduced in the 110th Congress that directly assist family caregivers. Recently enacted legislation include the Lifespan Respite Care Act and new provisions under Title IIIE of the Older Americans Act (OAA) pertaining to the NFCSP included in the OAA reauthorization. Proposed bills were designed to enhance and expand caregiver services and support, assist employed caregivers through flexible workplace accommodations and income security policies, or provide caregivers with additional tax credits.
