Healthier Heroes Act (2007)

Federal bill would would allow workers to take up to 26 weeks of unpaid, job-protected leave - compared to the current allowance of 12 weeks - to care for family members seriously injured in combat. Eligible workers include those who are the spouse, child, parent or next of kin of the servicemember. The bill would also give primary family caregivers the same health care benefits granted to dependents of servicemembers and clarify objectives for coordination between the VA and Department of Defense.
