Difficult Conversations About Difficult Decisions

A FREE workshop on talking with a loved one about end of life care

How do you start a conversation about end-of-life care with a loved one? How do you deal with resistance? What choices need to be made? What choices are there? Answers to these questions and more are discussed in a FREE workshop, sponsored by Family Caregiver Alliance (FCA) and Kaiser Permanente, for individuals and families caring for a loved one with a chronic illness. Speaker Beth Logan, M.S.W. covers topics related to end-of-life care and decision-making, including how to start a difficult conversation; getting family members together; dealing with resistance; making decisions about respirators, ventilators, and CPR; and holding on and letting go.

Caregivers will learn how to recognize and anticipate the kinds of situations that may arise, enabling them to honor a loved one’s health care wishes and avoid having to make tough decisions during a crisis.

When:           Saturday, June 18, 2005, 9:30 a.m.-12 noon

Where:          Kaiser Permanente-Oakland
                     280 W. MacArthur Blvd., Oakland
                     Room 1200-B, Main Hospital Building

Cost:             FREE

Registration:  Preregistration is required. Call FCA at (800) 445-8106 Ext. 411
