Family Caregiver Alliance provides this privacy policy (“Privacy Policy”) to inform you of our information gathering and dissemination practices for www.caregiver.org  (the “Site”). Due to the Internet’s rapidly evolving nature, Family Caregiver Alliance may need to update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If so, Family Caregiver Alliance will post its updated policy at www.caregiver.org. Family Caregiver Alliance encourages you to review this Privacy Policy regularly for any changes.

Collection of Information

You can generally visit our Site without revealing any personal information about yourself. However, when you engage in certain activities on the Site, we may ask you to provide certain information that is personally identifiable. We collect personally identifiable information about you only if you voluntarily provide it to us. Examples of when you voluntarily submit this kind of information include, but are not limited to, when you register to participate in one of our Online Support Groups, request information or referral to services and/or send us correspondence.

Use of Information. We may use any personally identifiable information you provide to: 

  • Provide information about, and referral to, services and service providers (to the extent that you provide information for this purpose);
  • Provide access for participation in our Online Support Group listserv-format Discussion Groups; and
  • Answer your questions and respond to your requests for additional information.

We do not sell, rent or lease your personally identifiable information to third parties.  When you request a referral for services, we may share your information with our partners and third parties who may send you correspondence or other information that you requested. We may also share limited access to personal information with third parties on a confidential basis to enable a third party to perform certain tasks on behalf of Family Caregiver Alliance, such as maintain an email list or perform system maintenance and repair.

We will also disclose your personally identifiable information if we reasonably believe we are required to do so by law, regulation or other government authority.

Cookies. Our Site uses “cookies.” Cookies are small files that are sent to your browser and stored on your hard drive.  The cookies we collect do not contain any personally identifiable information. Family Caregiver Alliance uses cookies to record how and when you use the Site.

Transfer.  Family Caregiver Alliance may disclose your personally identifiable information upon a transfer, consolidation or sale to another entity of all or substantially all of Family Caregiver Alliance’s assets or stock in Family Caregiver Alliance’s line of business to which this Privacy Policy relates or upon any other corporate reorganization.

Exclusion. Family Caregiver Alliance cannot predict, control or be responsible for the use or redistribution of information you choose to tell us or others when you post to the Online Support Groups made available on the Site.

About Our Discussion Groups

Our site features Discussion Groups, which enable our users to communicate with each other through the use of a listserv email format. Family Caregiver Alliance maintains this listserv but does not pre-screen materials posted to the list. We respect our subscribers’ privacy. We do not sell, rent or loan user names or passwords to any other organization or commercial entity. Nonetheless, when participating in FCA discussion groups, please be aware that information maybe be accessible to a large list of subscribers who might collect or use that information without your knowledge. Family Caregiver Alliance does not endorse recommendations for care, treatment or advice posted to the list. FCA encourages those seeking clinical and technical information to consult with the appropriate professional entity before taking action. This list is to facilitate mutual support for friends and family members caring for an adult with chronic or disabling health conditions. Individuals who post messages that are disrespectful of other members or are obscene or defamatory may be denied access to the discussion groups. Individuals are prohibited from posting on behalf of commercial concerns.
