Special FREE Services Now Available
to Contra Costa Caregivers

SAN FRANCISCO--05/02/02--If you're caring for a loved one affected by Alzheimer's disease, stroke, Parkinson's or another chronic health problem, it's easy to forget to take care of yourself.

Family Caregiver Alliance is pleased to announce special free services available to Contra Costa caregivers caring for someone 60 years or older with a chronic health condition. These services include:

  • Respite: funds for five days of 24-hour care in a facility or eight hours a day in the home to allow caregivers a break from their care responsibilities.

  • Adult Day Care or Day Health Care: funds to enroll someone in an adult day care program in the community. Adult day care offers supervised activities during the day to allow family caregivers to go to work, do errands, take care of their own medical needs, or simply rest.

  • Legal consultation: a free consultation of up to 1 1/2 hours for legal and financial planning with an attorney who specializes in elder law.

  • Additional FCA services, including an in-home care planning consultation to assess current and future needs, and educational programs.

Special funding from the Area Agency on Aging of Contra Costa County, through the National Family Caregiver Support Program, allows FCA to offer these services.

For more information and to apply for these time-limited services, contact Ryan Uhlenkott at Family Caregiver Alliance, (800) 445-8106.
