Free San Francisco Workshop Offers Legal Advice to Members of the LGBT Community
SAN FRANCISCO--4/18/02-- Family Caregiver Alliance and New Leaf Outreach to Elders are co-sponsoring Guard Your Legal Rights, a workshop on the unique legal issues lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender persons face, including long-term care considerations.
Joyce Pierson, Elder Law Project Consultant for National Center for Lesbian Rights, will discuss protection of a partner's property, visitation rights, tenant rights, and documents that allow individuals to maintain legal control over healthcare and property decisions in the event of incapacitation.
The workshop is scheduled for Thursday, April 25th, 2002, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the LGBT Community Center in San Francisco. To register, call Bill Kirkpatrick at New Leaf Outreach for Elders, (415) 255-2937, ext. 213.
This event is part of Family Caregiver Alliance's Caring Community Project, a program offering a variety of services for the LGBT community, including a 24-hour online support group, two new Fact Sheets on legal issues, and an LGBT caregiver retreat.
