President Bush has proposed level funding for most U.S. Administration on Aging (AoA) programs. For Fiscal Year 2004, the National Family Caregiver Support Program (NFCSP) would receive $142 million under the President's proposal. That is the same funding proposed for both Fiscal Year 2002 and Fiscal Year 2003. The final funding level for Fiscal Year 2003 has yet to be enacted into law though Congressional action is expected shortly. Other funding, such as that for Alzheimer's disease and "Aging Network Support Activities", would also receive level funding under the proposed budget. One new development, however, would be the allocation of $3 million for a White House Conference on Aging.
The next step in the budget process is for Congress to debate a budget resolution. Then, Congress works though the annual appropriations process, where proposed funding levels could change. For more information on the AoA budget: http://www.hhs.gov/budget/04budget/fy2004bib.pdf
