Senior Drivers: Driving Safer, Longer

As we age, we change physically and mentally. These changes can and do have an effect on driving skills. Getting older does not automatically make us poor drivers and many people continue to be safe drivers. However, older caregivers, family, or friends may come to a point where they are concerned for the safety of those who may no longer be able to drive safely. This webinar will introduce caregivers and professionals to the California DMV Senior Driver Ombudsman program. Listeners will learn how this program addresses the unique concerns of senior drivers, keeping them on the road for as long as possible, while maintaining safety as the top priority.

Objectives:

  1. Introduce attendees to the Senior Driver Ombudsman program
  2. Familiarize attendees with the regulations in the California Vehicle Code relating to driving and senior drivers
  3. Provide information and access to the tools available to assist seniors driving safely for as long as possible
  4. Provide information on how to report a potentially unsafe driver, and the steps taken by the California DMV to determine the ability of that driver

Speaker: Jerrod Sieberg

Jerrod E. Sieberg has over 18 years of experience with the California DMV. This includes front line work helping customers, acting as an administrative manager in a public field office, conducting hearings, and training new employees. Jerrod also served as a Driver Safety Hearing Officer for over four years. In this capacity, he made contact with several people who were over the age of 65 and developed a strong rapport with these customers, making sure that, if at all possible, they could continue to drive in California. As a Senior Driver Ombudsman, part of Jerrod’s responsibilities include acting as a “go between” for the people of California with a particular specialty in helping senior drivers.

Jerrod is also a military veteran with service in both the United States Army and the California National Guard. He was deployed for operation Noble Eagle I and II (post 9/11 activations) during his time in the National Guard.

This is a free webinar. Start and end times are listed for Pacific Time zone.
