Family Caregiver Alliance held its 4th annual Foro Latino (Latino Forum) on Saturday, October 3, at On Lok Lifeways in San Francisco. In partnership with On Lok Lifeways, UCSF Memory and Aging Center, California Advocates for Nursing Home Reform (CANHR), and the Alzheimer's Association, FCA Family Consultant Hilda Uribe-Escobar with the help of FCA Education Coordinator Calvin Hu presented this free conference in Spanish for those caring for a loved one with dementia or age-related illness.

Speakers and presenters included Serggio Lanata, M.D., (fellow in neurology at UCSF) on A Healthy Body for a Healthy Brain (photo above); Therapeutic Dance for Caregivers with Katherine Hall (activity leader at On Lok) and Ilka Williams (Latin and African dance instructor); and Pauline Mosher (CANHR program manager) on Long Term Care. Approximately 40 caregivers attended the morning workshops.

The Foro Latino is dedicated to the memory of FCA Family Consultant Lois Escobar who worked with FCA for over 20 years. She developed FCA’s Latino Foro and the Spanish-Speaking Support Group. With sadness, Lois lost her battle with cancer in 2013.
