November is National Family Caregivers Month

Family Caregiver Alliance recognizes National Family Caregivers Month with a wealth of new and updated educational materials, webinars and videos. Special features will be highlighted each week throughout the month of November. Many are in multiple languages and all materials are available online at no charge.

Dear Friend,

Families who care at home for loved ones with debilitating, long-term health conditions such as Alzheimer’s disease or stroke often do so with inadequate information or training. Family Caregiver Alliance aims to change that. In honor of National Family Caregivers Month, FCA has released a wide range of new and updated informational materials, many in multiple languages, accessible at www.caregiver.org.

Family caregivers fulfill a variety of roles. In addition to becoming experts about their loved ones’ health, they act as liaisons with healthcare providers, insurance companies, and legal and financial entities. They prepare food, perform housekeeping, transportation and hygiene duties, and often provide very sophisticated care, including managing complex medication schedules. They sometimes deal with problem behaviors, and offer socialization for those suffering from long-term illnesses. And this time of year, with holidays approaching, families are often overwhelmed by emotional distress as they cope with losses and memories of other, better times.

Families are truly the backbone of the long-term care system in the US. But they are under great stress and don’t always have the information they need when they take responsibility for a loved one’s care. This November, which is dedicated to the millions of caregiving families across the country, we’re proud to offer a variety of new educational materials—all free and accessible on our website. In addition to these essential educational resources, we will be highlighting important caregiver topics, such as Caregiving 101, Young Caregivers & Millennial Caregivers, Holidays and Caregiving, and Self-Care for the Caregiver.

Please stay connected with FCA on Facebook and Twitter, as we share our newest materials and focus on important matters impacting family caregivers, throughout the month of November.
