Online Dementia Family Caregiver Study

Recruitment is ongoing for the Chronic Grief Management Intervention-An Online Video Group (CGMI-V), a clinical trial funded by the National Institute on Aging. CGMI-V aims to help caregivers after placing a family member diagnosed with Alzheimer’s or a related dementia in long-term care.

Caregiver Involvement


  • Randomly assigned (like the flip of a coin) to either the CGMI-V intervention or a control condition
  • Caregivers in the CGMI-V intervention will participate in an online video group meeting weekly for about an hour, for 8 consecutive weeks
  • The control condition will receive a package with written information about Alzheimer’s disease or related dementias
  • Take part in 3 phone interviews (at baseline, 8 and 24 weeks)
  • Receive a $25 Target gift card after each interview

Criteria for inclusion


  • Family caregiver to a person with Alzheimer’s or a related dementia residing in a long-term care facility
  • Commit to 24 weeks
  • Have internet/wifi  access and  possess minimal technology skills
