Herramientas Para Cuidadores (Alzheimer's Association)

Herramientas para Cuidadores is a psychoeducational training series teaching coping skills to distressed Latino caregivers of someone with Alzheimer's disease in order to improve the quality of life of the caregiver and the quality of care for the person with dementia.

Creative Connections: Innovative Training and Support for Caregivers of Persons with Dementia

The program teams up students from the University of Virginia Schools of Education, Nursing and Medicine with families dealing with Alzheimer's disease in the community. The students provide assistance in adapting the environment to becoming appropriate for the person with dementia.

Montessori-based Activity Program

The Montessori Program at Family and Children's Services' Adult Day Services at West End Place studies the impact of using the Montessori Method with adults with mild to moderate dementia.

Quality Improvement in Dementia Care

This pilot project provides caregivers of dementia patients a separate time for education and support with a dementia counselor during the patients' clinic visits. Follow-up counseling for the caregiver is also available.

Apoyos Para Los Cuidadores (Support for the Caregivers)

The program offers support services to family caregivers of adults with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias. Participants of this program are residents of Taos County and come from rural, low-income and diverse, predominantly Latino, communities. Apoyos Para Los Cuidadores is the 2008 recipient of The Rosalinde Gilbert Innovations in Alzheimer's Disease Caregiving Legacy Award, Diverse/Multicultural Communities Category.
