How does it work?

Caring for You, Caring for Me: Education and Support for Family and Professional Caregivers

Caring for You, Caring for Me is a 10-hour program, conducted in five two-hour modules and addresses the needs of family and professional caregivers. Caregivers learn: ways of coping with caregiving; resources available and how to access them; ways to share common concerns and issues. A one-day workshop trains professionals interested in delivering this intervention.

This pilot project provides caregivers of dementia patients a separate time for education and support with a dementia counselor during the patients' clinic visits. Follow-up counseling for the caregiver is also available.

Apoyos Para Los Cuidadores (Support for the Caregivers)

The program offers support services to family caregivers of adults with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias. Participants of this program are residents of Taos County and come from rural, low-income and diverse, predominantly Latino, communities. Apoyos Para Los Cuidadores is the 2008 recipient of The Rosalinde Gilbert Innovations in Alzheimer's Disease Caregiving Legacy Award, Diverse/Multicultural Communities Category.
