Louisiana Department of Motor Vehicle (DMV): Older adults
The DMV is required to investigate reports received from law enforcement, family, and medical professionals of unsafe drivers. These reports are used to determine if the driver needs a re-examination of driving skills or written testing, or medical or psychological evaluation. However, there are no direct regulations on mandatory reporting for individuals with cognitive impairments.
License renewal occurs every 4 years. Older adults (age 70+) must renew their license in person.
