T-N-T

I was a caregiver for my two cousins, Travis and Tyler Hunt (T-N-T), for four years. They both had Duchenne muscular dystrophy. Tyler passed away at 25 and Travis at 32. I wanted to write this story to help motivate others how important in-home caregivers are to families and those in need of care.

Sometimes being a caregiver can be very draining and get you down at times, but it’s important to remember what a huge difference you can make in someone’s life. Not to mention how much you can learn from the people you care for. I learned so much about life and how to become a better person with those four amazing years I had with my cousins.

I also volunteered at the MDA summer camp for five years and met many great young men with DMD. Unfortunately almost all of them have passed as well. But in the end I wouldn’t change any of it for the world, I formed many great memories and bonds with everyone I came across and was inspired so much by them. It helped me to see the world from another point of view and to not take anything for granted.

Thank you to all the caregivers out there and remember when it gets hard just think of how much your help really does and how much you can learn in return from those you help!
