Educational and Respite Retreat in Menlo Park

You are invited to join us for a free one-day retreat designed especially for you, the family caregiver. Learn about caregiver self-care and stress management, participate in therapeutic group activities, network and share your experiences with fellow caregivers, and enjoy a catered breakfast and lunch.

At this class, you’ll learn tips and strategies for understanding and communicating with someone affected by dementia. You’ll also learn:

  • How to  handle difficult behaviors.
  • How dementia affects a person's ability to understand and communicate.
  • How to feel more confident in your caregiving role.

Being Mortal: Film Screeing and End-of-Life Panel Discussion

A FREE Screening of the PBS Frontline film on terminal illness & final choices, based on the bestselling book by Dr. Atul Gawande.

 
A panel discussion will be held after the screening of the film, with end-of-life experts from the Asian, Southeast Asian and Hispanic communities.

Loving Dementia Care: Learning the Skills you Need to Succeed

Topics include
• Overview of dementia
• Management of physical symptoms
• Management of behavioral symptoms
• Communication strategies
• Treatment options
• Coping as a caregiver

Bring your questions and cases and enjoy a chance to collaborate with others about the challenging care of patients with dementia

A certificate of completion will be provided: Provider approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, Provider Number CEP 12980 for 6 contact hours

Family Caregiver Education Series

The city of Fremont Family Caregiver Support Program is pleased to offer a series of eight workshops designed to provide training, education, support, and resources for those caring for elderly loved ones.

 

Workshops will be offered on every Monday, beginning on January, 25, 2016. Registration and refreshments will begin at 9:30 a.m., and classes will be held from 10 a.m. to noon.
