On Saturday, May 13, 38 local caregivers participated in a free FCA Take Time for YOU! Caregiver Educational and Respite Retreat at the historic Richmond Country Club. This retreat was offered thanks to a generous grant provided by Contra Costa County. During the retreat, caregivers learned about self-care and had the chance to enjoy activities that included journaling, yarn making, and flowerpot decorating with FCA Family Consultant Amanda Hartrey, LMFT. Activities were also offered concurrently and they included yoga, tai chi, and line dancing. Caregivers enjoyed brunch along with a few unannounced surprises: a petting zoo and chair massage!

MSW intern Jaleesa Jeffery coordinated a Stress Management and Movement Retreat on Thursday, April, 13, at the Log Cabin in the Presidio of San Francisco. Caregivers began the day learning about stress management and caregiver self-care with FCA Special Projects Consultant Donna Schempp, LCSW. Activities that followed included dance, yoga, walk and meditation, and a catered lunch was served.

“It was just what the doctor ordered! The teachers were kind and encouraged us to be expressive and kind to ourselves. The lunches were high quality and very good. The FCA staff were professional, organized, and provided great support. And you are very welcoming and are a great resource in your field. This retreat made a big difference in my life and I am still benefiting from the relief.”

“Such a great group of people — I enjoyed it more than any other workshop I've lead, actually.”
