Senior Driving: Mobility Matters

As we age, we change physically and mentally. These changes can and do have an effect on driving skills. Getting older does not automatically make us poor drivers and many people continue to be safe drivers. However, older caregivers, family, or friends may come to a point where they are concerned for the safety of those who may no longer be able to drive safely. This webinar will introduce caregivers and professionals to the California DMV Senior Driver Ombudsman program. Listeners will learn how this program addresses the unique concerns of senior drivers, keeping them on the road for as long as possible, while maintaining safety as the top priority.

Presenter: Jerrod E. Sieberg

Jerrod is the Senior Driver Ombudsman at the California DMV. He has over 25 years of experience with the DMV, including front line work helping customers, acting as an administrative manager in a public field office, conducting hearings (DUI, too many points, physical and mental conditions, and fraud), and training employees. Jerrod was previously a Driver Safety Hearing Officer for over four years. In this position he worked with older adults, and made sure that if at all possible, they could continue to drive in the state of California. As a Senior Driver Ombudsman, Jerrod acts as a “go between” for the people of California with a specialty in helping senior drivers.

Jerrod’s prior experience includes service in the U.S. Army (1991-1995) and the California National Guard (1996-2004). He deployed for both operations Noble Eagle I and II (post September 11, 2001 activations) while in the National Guard.
