Motivating Loved Ones: How to Communicate Better and Work Together to Help Those You Care For Stay Active and Engaged

Presented by Elizabeth (Liz) Barnett, M.S.W, Ph.D.

This webinar provides family caregivers an opportunity to learn the basics of Motivational Interviewing, a proven method for increasing engagement. When practiced by caregivers, Motivational Interviewing can help a care recipient become more active and involved in their health and well-being.

Participants learn practical strategies to help encourage and inspire care recipients to be more physically active, participate in rewarding activities, improve their diet, tidy up around the house, and more, such as:

how to use the “explore-offer-explore” method for giving information

the benefits of asking permission before sharing their opinion, advice, or concerns

how to ask questions that can draw out a person’s reasons for change
