Are You Caring for a Family Member Experiencing Lewy Body Dementia?
Lewy Body Dementia is the second most common cause of dementia and can be particularly challenging for family members involved in caregiving. Rapid changes in memory, thinking, movement, mood, restlessness, sleep disturbances, and hallucinations make it difficult to know how to interact with the person experiencing LBD at any given moment.
This study aims to understand how and why symptoms change throughout the day and night, and how these changes affect caregiver stress. Researchers at the University of Texas at Austin, with funding from the National Institutes of Health, are documenting the daily experiences of caregivers for individuals with Lewy body dementia (LBD). The goal is to develop more effective interventions that address challenges as they occur in real time.
You may be eligible to participate if you:
- Are at least 18 years old
- Are an unpaid caregiver living in the same household as a family member with LBD
- Are the primary caregiver for that family member
- Are comfortable answering questions in English or Spanish
Participation includes:
- A 1-hour confidential phone interview scheduled at your convenience
- Brief surveys completed every few hours over four days
- Wearing a study-provided Fitbit during the study period
Participants may receive up to $200 for their participation.
