Developing an Inclusive Measure of Financial Hardship for People Living with Dementia (PLWD) and Their Care Contributor

Researchers at the University of Utah College of Nursing want to hear from LGBTQ+ persons living with dementia or memory loss AND their caregivers about the financial impact of dementia. Caregivers can include friends, chosen family, biological family, or partners/spouses. The pair will be asked to complete an online eligibility survey to assess if they meet the criteria for participation. Of note, each person in the pair will be asked to answer some basic questions, with all surveys taking no longer than 15-20 minutes to complete. Caregivers are allowed to help persons living with dementia complete the online surveys if help is needed. Pairs will then engage in one virtual 90-minute group discussion with other LGBTQ+ people living with dementia or dementia symptoms and their care partners. Each person who attends the group discussion will receive $75 as compensation, meaning each pair can earn $150. The insights you share will directly inform a new assessment tool that researchers, healthcare providers, and policymakers can use to better understand and address financial challenges in dementia care. Your story and perspective are valuable. Together, we can ensure that financial hardship doesn’t remain a hidden struggle for families affected by dementia. Questions?
