Dysphagia in Dementia: Understanding Its Impact On Caregivers Over Time  

Our research team at the University of Oregon is seeking volunteers for this fully remote, online survey study.  

This study follows family caregivers of people with dementia over time to better understand how swallowing difficulty (dysphagia) affects caregiver stress, confidence, and support needs at different stages of dementia. By listening to caregivers’ experiences over time, our goal is to develop well-timed, practical education and support for families.  

What’s involved  

Four 30-minute online surveys (one every 5 months)  

Optional Zoom interviews   

Compensation for participation  

Who may be eligible  

You may be eligible to participate if you:  

Are 18 years of age or older  

Provide any amount of unpaid care (day-to-day support) to a family member or chosen family member with dementia  

Have been providing care for at least two months  

Care for someone who lives at home with you  

Live in the United States  

Can complete surveys online (or over the phone if you prefer)  

The person you care for does not need to have swallowing difficulties for you to participate.
