Join Guiding Star Study: A Study to Understand How Caregivers Prevent Falls for People Memory Issues
- Goal: Explore how to best support family and friend care partners to manage fall risk in older people with cognitive impairment who live in the community.
- Why participate:
– In the United States, more than half of the people with memory issues (i.e., cognitive impairment or dementia) fall annually.
– Little is known about how to prevent falls among people with cognitive impairment.
– They are often left on their own to manage fall risk with their informal care partners, such as family, friends, or community volunteers.
– Little support is available for care partners in fall risk management.
- What’s included: You will be asked to complete a self-paced survey (30-40 min). The survey can be completed online, in person, or using a physical copy.
The survey includes:
- Care partners’ experiences of fall risk management
- Care partners’ health conditions, background information, and overall caregiving experience
- Family member/friend with memory issues, health conditions, and background information
Participants will receive compensation for the time spent completing the survey.
- Who can participate: To learn about the study’s eligibility, care partners can check out the attached flyer to complete the interest form and eligibility survey at redcap.link/cpstar, or contact us at care.equity.aging@austin.utexas.edu.
