The Environmental Skill-building Program

The Environmental Skill-building Program assists caregivers build skills to manage a range of daily care challenges including taking care of themselves and alleviating stress. It is designed for all stages of dementia (mild, moderate, severe).

How does it work?

The intervention is delivered by occupational therapists trained in the program in homes of families.

Why is it successful?

Evaluation shows decreased frequency of behavioral occurrences and increased ability to engage in activities for the person with Alzheimer’s disease. For the caregivers, benefits include reduced burden and depression, enhanced caregiving skills and confidence.
