Family Caregiver Alliance (FCA)
FCA support and assists families and caregivers through education, advocacy and services. In addition to providing training to technical assistance to California’s Caregiver Resource Centers, FCA hosts the National Center on Caregiving (NCC). The NCC serves as a central source of information on caregiving and long-term care issues and works to advance policies and programs for caregivers in every state in the country.

Kentucky Family Caregiver Support Services
There are two services programs available: National Family Caregiver Support Program and Kentucky Family Caregiver Program.
The National Family Caregiver Support Program offers flexible benefits and support services to informal caregivers of people 60 years of age or older, an individual with Alzheimer’s disease or a related disorder and also for grandparents and relatives aged 55 or older caring for a relative child no older than 18 years of age related by birth, marriage or adoption.
Kentucky Family Caregiver Program provides a wide range of services including matching grandparent caregivers with support groups and providing information about resources, assistance in accessing services, counseling and training.

Office of Dementia Services (ODS)
The Kentucky Office of Dementia Services (ODS), within the Department for Aging and Independent Living (DAIL), works to improve the quality of life for individuals living with dementia and their caregivers. ODS provides statewide leadership in dementia education, caregiver support, and community engagement. Through partnerships with local agencies, health systems, and community organizations, ODS develops and promotes dementia-capable services, supports evidence-based caregiver training, advances early detection and brain health awareness, and coordinates Kentucky’s Dementia State Plan.

The Home and Community Based (HCB) waiver is part of Kentucky’s 1915(c) HCBS Medicaid waiver program. HCB provides assistance to the elderly or to adults and children with physical disabilities to help them live in the community as independently as possible. Services may include:

Personal Care Attendant Program
Kentucky’s Personal Care Attendant Program is a non-Medicaid program intended to assist disabled adults with functional loss of two or more limbs. This program helps qualified participants remain living at home by providing a personal care attendant that can assist with housekeeping, shopping, meal preparation, and personal services. Certain family members may be eligible to be hired and paid as the personal care attendant.

Guiding an Improved Dementia Experience (GUIDE) Model
The Guiding an Improved Dementia Experience (GUIDE) Model is a voluntary nationwide model test that aims to support people with dementia and their unpaid caregivers. The GUIDE Model focuses on comprehensive, coordinated dementia care and aims to improve quality of life for people with dementia, reduce strain on their unpaid caregivers, and enable people with dementia to remain in their homes and communities.

Kentucky State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP)
The Kentucky State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) provides information, counseling and assistance to seniors and disabled individuals, their families and caregivers. This service is provided at no charge by local, well-trained counselors.
