Family Caregiver Alliance (FCA)

Kentucky Family Caregiver Support Services

There are two services programs available: National Family Caregiver Support Program and Kentucky Family Caregiver Program.

The National Family Caregiver Support Program offers flexible benefits and support services to informal caregivers of people 60 years of age or older, an individual with Alzheimer’s disease or a related disorder and also for grandparents and relatives aged 55 or older caring for a relative child no older than 18 years of age related by birth, marriage or adoption.

Kentucky Family Caregiver Program provides a wide range of services including matching grandparent caregivers with support groups and providing information about resources, assistance in accessing services, counseling and training.

Can I Get Help to Pay for Caregiving?

Hart-Supported Living Program

Kentucky’s Hart-Supported Living Program is a non-Medicaid program that allows Kentucky residents with disabilities to remain living at home with the aid of personal care services, respite care, home modifications, medical equipment, and skill training. Family members, including spouses and adult children, are allowed to be hired and paid as the personal care attendant.

Home and Community Based (HCB) Waiver

Government program assists low-income adults who require nursing level of care remain in their own homes by helping to pay for home and community based services including care management and in-home care.

*Consumer Directed Option (CDO) is an option of the HCB waiver which allows care receivers to hire a relative or friend to provide the care they need.

The Michelle P. Waiver is a Medicaid program that assists persons with intellectual or developmental disabilities to remain living at home. This program allows certain family members to be hired and paid as the personal care provider. Other services may include:

Personal Care Attendant Program

Kentucky’s Personal Care Attendant Program is a non-Medicaid program intended to assist disabled adults with functional loss of two or more limbs.
